25th Annual AACA Meeting - Toronto, Canada
The silver anniversary meeting of the AACA will be held at the Delta Chelsea hotel in downtown Toronto, in close proximity to the University of Toronto. Bookmark this page so you can return in the near future to submit an abstract, register for the meeting and/or book accomodation for the meeting. Toronto is easily accessible by air or automobile. If you arrive by air you will enter Canada at the Pearson International Airport. Transportation to the hotel can be obtained by taxi (~$35) or by airport shuttle that conveniently stops at the Chelsea Delta ($30 round trip per person - as of January 2007). Arriving by car? There is a $23/day parking fee ($29 for valet) at the Chelsea. Either way, you are travelling internationally and there are some facts you need to know. These have been put in the Toronto tourism site but are located at this specific page. ** Important regarding travel for the Toronto AACA meeting ** Under the new Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, travel to Canada from the U.S. for the Toronto meeting of the AACA requires a valid passport if you are travelling by air. Access by land or sea does not at this time require a passport but you must present a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate. Toronto is a major metropolitan city and as such has a large venue of attractions - things to see and do. In addition to these, the Accompanying Persons Program organized by the Toronto Local Organizing Committee have planned some exceptional activities - don't miss the trip to Niagara Falls - the Canadian side! Slots are limited to 16 players so be sure to contact Greg as soon as possible if you are interested in participating. Each AACA meeting has characteristically offered organized tours of local - and not so local - sites for those accopmaying persons to each meeting. The Toronto meeting is no exception. The Local Organizing Committeee has teamed with Congress Canada to provide a full day tour to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, and a half day tour of Toronto culminating with a trip to the top of the CN Tower. If you are interested, the ability to register for one or both of these events will by on the meeting registration form linked to that bullet above. **You have to register for the Accompanying Persons Program separately from the meeting - directly with Congress Canada - the tour host. Attractions Close to the Hotel For those who want to wander out and about, to attractions close to the Chelsea Delta hotel, the LOC has provided us with the following list of attractions you might want to visit before or after the meeting. Toronto Eaton Centre Niagara Falls Book Your Room at the Chelsea Delta The Chelsea Delta, the hotel acting as host site for all aspects of the Toronto AACA meeting, has offered our membership rates of $139 Cdn (+ taxes, single or double occupancy - remember you can get your GST - Goods and Services Tax - rebated as a visitor to Canada). Do not alter this code and you will be offered the AACA rate of $139. Don't leave booking your roomn until the last minute - remember Las Vegas! Information for Vendors/Exhibitors The AACA has entered into a relationship with JulNet Solutions to provide our vendors and exhibitors with expert meeting management personnel to act as a liaison between the AACA and the hotel providing the physical facilities. To download the exhibitor information brochure, complete with Registration form, click here. 2008 Anatomical Services Symposium (Tuesday, July 15, 2:30-5:00 p.m.) The AACA Anatomical Services Committee (ASC) will present a Symposium at the Toronto meeting entitled "Innovations Using Anatomical Materials in Education". The symposium will occur on Tuesday afternoon July 15, 2:30- 5:00 p.m. There is a separate one-day registration fee for individuals only interested in attending this event. The symposium is included in the registration fee for all members who pay full registration (including students) and interested individuals are invited to attend. The Educational Affairs Committee, in conjunction with the meeting LOC (Dr. Anne Agur) are pleased to be able to capitalize on the University of Toronto Division of Biomedical Communication to bring this outstanding symposium together for the silver anniversary meeting of the AACA. The topic will be: Biomedical Communications: Exploring the visual communication of science and medicine. Symposium participants and their topics are: Linda Wilson-Pauwels - "Cranial Nerves in Health & Disease: production methodology"
The symposium will outline the contribution of these talented artists in the diverse field of biomedical communication. The Toronto Postgraduate Course - Saturday, July 19, 2008 The Toronto LOC, under the direction of Dr. Anne Agur, has prepared an exceptional Postgraduate Course for 2008.
