Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine

Medical School Basic Science/PBL Faculty

The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine seeks full-time, 12-month, faculty (all ranks) for its additional site located on the campus of Seton Hill University in Greensburg. Pennsylvania.    LECOM at Seton Hill, which presents the preclinical curriculum primarily via Problem-Based Learning (PBL), opened in July 2009 and currently enrolls only the Class of 2013.  In anticipation of the arrival of the second class of students in July 2010, we are seeking to fill at least five new faculty positions.  All successful candidates will facilitate PBL groups, advise osteopathic medical students and contribute to the development of the college through research and/service.  Faculty may be involved in other courses depending on training and expertise.  A Ph.D. in a basic medical science discipline or a D.O./M.D. degree is required.  Applications from anatomists are especially encouraged, as are applications from candidates with prior PBL experience or who are available to train for a period of time during the Spring Semester 2010.    Applicants should complete an application online at www.lecom.edu and forward a cover letter, current curriculum vitae, and contact information of three references to Dr. Christine S. Southern Illinois University

Tenure Track Faculty Positions
Section of Anatomy

The Section of Anatomy at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine is seeking applicants for two full time (12 month) tenure track faculty positions at the Assistant/Associate Professor level.  Applicants must have a Ph.D. or Ph.D./DMD/DDS.  Postdoctoral training and prior teaching experience in the anatomical sciences are desirable. Teaching duties will include directing a course in Histology, Neuroanatomy, or Oral Histology and assisting in teaching Gross Anatomy.  Candidates are expected to be active in dentally related research.  Available research equipment is significant and includes instrumentation for confocal microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, RT-PCR, gel electrophoresis, and HPLC.  Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications.  The school is located on a historic campus, 15 minutes from the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and 30 minutes from St. Louis.  Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Department Chair of Anatomy directs and facilitates the Department of Anatomy in its striving to fulfill the Texas Chiropractic College Mission Statement, Vision Statement and Core Values.  This position is responsible for the quality and delivery of patient care and student education, the continuing development and education of the staff, faculty and interns, and the general administration and financial management of the Anatomy department.

Faculty members teach in their appropriate division and department and participate in all committees assigned. Responsibility generally includes teaching in the following areas:

Gross Human Anatomy I:  Gross anatomy of the human body considering the back, walls of the thorax and abdomen and the upper and lower extremities.  The laboratory portion of the course covers cadaver dissection.

Gross Human Anatomy II:  This course details the gross anatomy of the human head and neck, thoracic and abdominal viscera, pelvis and external genitalia.  The laboratory portion of the course covers cadaver dissection.

  1. Teach a full time load as defined by letter of appointment.
  2. Represent the college in the local and academic community.
  3. Evaluate/design improved curricula in area(s) of expertise.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. PhD in Anatomy or Physical Anthropology or a First Professional Doctorate with a MS in Anatomy, per CCE requirements. Teaching experience preferred.
  2. Capacity for close, regular interaction/guidance with students.
  3. Ability to assist with curricular development.
  4. Ability to assess performance/learning with documentation.
  5. Ability to work closely with other course instructors.
  6. Willingness to expand his/her own knowledge base to fit the needs of the institution.

JOB CONDITIONS: 

A standard course load as defined by the letter of appointment.  Ability to handle pressures of balancing the time required to deal with individual problems of students with completing the necessary planning, reports, meetings and teaching responsibilities is expected. West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking an anatomist to fill a tenure-track position teaching medical gross anatomy. Assistant Professor, Tenure-Track

The Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology in the College of Medicine at the University of Kentucky is committed to excellence in teaching and research.  The Department has a group of four Special Titles (Teaching) faculty and is currently looking to add another.  Special Titles Faculty are tenure-track and as such this is a full-time, 12-month appointment.  Scholarly activity is an essential and important component for success in this faculty line.  The department offers significant mentoring toward success in this academic line.  This appointment has primary responsibilities in the department’s undergraduate teaching commitments – specifically a two semester, two section, anatomy and physiology course (~450 students/year) for pre-nursing.  The individual would also be expected to acquire (or currently possess) expertise in dissection-based anatomy to contribute to teaching in one or more of our four professional programs.  Preference will be given to applicants with expertise, or have an interest in/creation of, on-line undergraduate curricula that would include a virtual laboratory for these courses.   Other applicable assets would be any, or all, of the following:  background in education, its theory and application, and/or demonstrated interest in development of innovative teaching approaches.  Tenure-track necessitates that applicants must have an advanced degree (PhD, EdD, MD or DDS).   Previous teaching experience is highly desirable.

Professional Practice Fellow in Clinical Anatomy

We are seeking a fixed-term Professional Practice Fellow to contribute to the undergraduate teaching of clinical anatomy to health professional students in the Department. It is anticipated that this appointment will commence as soon as possible. Ideally, this will be a full-time appointment, however applications for part-time positions may be considered.

The primary responsibilities of this position are to assist with the teaching of the second and third year medical students.

Applicants will hold a clinical professional qualification and ideally have some experience in teaching at a tertiary level. Applicants will also be committed to excellence in teaching. Applicants must be able to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of staff and students.

The Ohio State University

The Division of Anatomy in the College of Medicine, The Ohio State University, seeks an Anatomist with a commitment to both teaching and research to fill a tenure track position at the assistant or associate professor level beginning August 1, 2010.  The Division of Anatomy is building a strong unit whose mission includes teaching, scholarship in medical education, and the training of future anatomists.  The individual should have a Ph.D. or M.D. and formal education in the sub-disciplines of human anatomy: histology, embryology, gross anatomy, and neuroanatomy.  Teaching experience in at least two of the sub-disciplines is essential, and experience in a third sub-disciplines is desirable.  The primary teaching responsibilities will be to teach anatomical sciences to professional and graduate students.  The individual will be expected to develop a productive research program in medical and anatomical educational scholarship, as evidenced by active pursuit of funding, collaborating with members of the College’s Office for Scholarship in Medical Education and/or the Clinical Skills Education and Assessment Center, and publication in peer-reviewed journals. Examples of appropriate areas of scholarship are evidence-based pedagogy, anatomical informatics, the development of computer-assisted instruction, and the evaluation of educational outcomes.  Review of applications will begin in July 2010 and continue until the position is filled.

The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at The University of Western Ontario invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured mid-career faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in the area of Clinical Anatomy.  The Division of Clinical Anatomy, within the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, consists of a highly motivated group of educators, responsible for teaching the sub-disciplines of anatomy to students in medicine, dentistry and other health science professions.  Members of the Division are also actively involved in educational scholarship and research, including the design, production and testing of innovative teaching materials.  Four years ago the Division launched a successful Master of Clinical Anatomy program, the first of its kind in Canada, designed to train students to become educator-scholars in the field of Clinical Anatomy and the aim is now to introduce a PhD program.

Applications will be considered from candidates with a PhD, MD or DDS (or equivalent) degree, with a strong background and demonstrated excellence in the teaching of gross anatomy, embryology and histology.  In addition, candidates must show clear evidence of outstanding scholarship in education, or in a field related to clinical anatomy. The successful candidate will be expected to take an active part in the teaching, student mentorship, and administration within the Division and to play a key role in the development of the Clinical Anatomy PhD program. The successful applicant will also be expected to maintain active scholarship in education or research related to clinical anatomy.
