Visit the Web Sites of our Sustaining Vendors Support Our New and Sustaining Vendors As most of you know, the AACA's annual Scientific Session is supported in great part by our contributing vendors. The list below contains the majority of our new and/or sustaining vendor companies. Why not visit the web site of those vendors to familiarize yourself with their full line of offerings and consider them first when purchasing materials as a way of showing them how we value their continued support.
Cleveland AACA Meeting, July 14-17th, 2009 The Cleveland meeting is shaping up to be another truly international meeting featuring over 115 presentations (platform, techfair, or poster) given by participants from 11 different countries. To kick things off, we hope that old acquaintances and new acquaintances can be made when you attend the “Welcome Reception", Tuesday evening, July 14th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. During the meeting, you will enjoy special invited talks given by several distinguished scientists and clinicians: Dr. Carlos Machado, a Brazilian cardiologist and eminent medical illustrator, who is continuing the illustration program founded by the late Dr. Frank H. Netter, will give the Keith L. Moore/Lippincott Williams and Wilkins Presidential Paper. The title of his talk is, "Following the Trail of Frank Netter: Master Medical Illustrator.” Dr. Noel Boaz, Professor of Anatomy at Ross University School of Medicine, will give the AACA Council Presentation on, “Evolutionary Anatomy: The Structural Basis for Evolutionary Medicine,” in recognition of the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth. The Educational Affairs Symposium will feature William F. Dunn, M.D., Medical Director of the Mayo Clinic Multidisciplinary Simulation Center, who will talk on, “Integrating Clinical Anatomy into the Reformation of Advanced Training: The Simulation Movement – What’s Ahead?” Dr. Dunn’s theme of simulation will be showcased in the Postgraduate Course on Saturday, July 18th. This year's Postgraduate Course centers on “Simulation in Medical Education,” hosted by Dr. Rick Drake and renowned colleagues at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. As many of you are aware, simulations are playing increasingly prominent roles in medical education and training today and this course offers participants a hands-on program of application activities, including lumbar puncture and joint trainers, chest tube and cricothyrotomy trainers, female reproductive simulation exercises, cardiovascular simulation, and airway simulation, to name just a few. Learn the latest on what is currently available so that you can develop ideas on how simulation can be used in instruction at your institution. Individuals interested in attending the Postgraduate Course alone need not register for the scientific portion of the meeting, though there is a separate registration fee ($295) for the Postgraduate Course. **For further information on registering for thePostgraduate Course, the Scientific Session of the 26th annual meeting, or the accompanying persons’ activities, please access the meeting website: www.aacameeting.org The annual banquet will be held Thursday evening (July 16) in the spacious Cleveland Museum of Natural History and will provide attendees the unique opportunity to wander around the museum and leisurely view the exhibits. That evening we are privileged to recognize Richard S. Snell, M.D., Ph.D. as our Honored Member, and Arthur F. Dalley, Ph.D. as this year’s R. Benton Adkins Jr. Distinguished Service Award recipient. We think you will agree that this meeting holds something for everyone and we hope to see you in Cleveland. As further incentive, in light of the current financial realities we and our respective institutions face, the Executive Committee has agreed to return the meeting registration fee to our “early bird” rate for the remainder of the registration period. So, if you haven’t registered yet, please do so and plan on joining us. 17th Congress of the International Federation of Associations of Anatomists - August 16-20, 2009, Cape Town, South Africa The 17th Congress of the the International Federation of Associations of Anatomists hosted by the Anatomical Society of Southern Africa, 16-20 August 2009 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, Cape Town, Republic of South Africa. Visas are required for most travelers to the U.S. Increased security measures now require visa applications to undergo greater scrutiny than in the past. Because the application and review process can take considerable time, applicants are advised to apply as early as possible (at least 2-3 months) in advance of their travel date. If you need a visa, you must go to your closest U.S. visa-issuing post for an interview with a Department of State consular officer, which includes a review of your application and supporting documents, and collection of your biometrics (up to 10 digital fingerprints and a digital photograph). For more information on US-VISIT information visit the web site. Information on how long you will have to wait to get an interview appointment and for specific details on visa requirements and application procedures for your country of origin, is provided at this site. Most Canadian citizens and many citizens from Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries (currently 35 countries - see list of countries) can come to the U.S. without a visa provided they meet certain passport requirements. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has recently (1/12/2009) issued a requirement that travelers from all VWP countries must obtain travel approval through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) prior to traveling to the U.S. Visitors may apply online for travel authorization via the ESTA web site. As part of the arrival process into the U.S., all international visitors will experience US-VISIT biometric procedures (collection of digital fingerprints and photographs) prior to their entrance. The AACA Program Secretary (Dr. Mark Seifert) will issue letters of invitation to those registered attendees who require/request them. Letters of invitation MUST be requested as early as possible. Last minute letters will only be expedited by courier at the expense of the individual requesting them.
